Initial focus will lie on the Norwegian market where the emphasis willbe on assisting operators to use novel methods of abandonment to access costreductions while reducing the overall risk of leaks from abandoned wells. The solution will also be available globallythanks to HydraWell’s existing service network.

The alliancesees HydraWell bring its knowledge of downhole operations to the design ofdeployment equipment and operational methodology and will be the deliverycontractor delivering this service alongside their existing suite ofcapabilities. Meanwhile, Exedra hasdeveloped a method for testing barrier integrity by releasing a dose ofpressurised tracer gas (Helium) beneath a barrier once it is installed andcured, and then monitoring for traces of this element above the barrier. Themethod is flexible, fast and gives an unambiguous result, enabling operators toselect flexible, cost effective, safe solutions. Piloting and testing will take place in theUllrigg test facility at NORCE with support from Equinor and another majorglobal Operator.

Commenting onthe relationships, Tom Leeson, HydraWell’s Chief Commercial Officer said: “Bypooling our knowledge and resources in this way, we will be able to tap intonew markets as well as broadening our offering to existing clients. As the industry continues to seek a widerrange of cost-saving solutions, we are confident that this new option willprove to be an attractive proposition both in Norway and in other internationalmarkets.”

Bernt Pedersen,CEO of Exedra added: “Verification of permanent isolation barriers is anintegral part of well abandonment. Pressure testing is often constrained by thestrength and characteristics of exposed formations, particularly when multipleannuli are incorporated into the barrier. Alternatives often rely on indicativemeasurements such as cement bond and cement quality logs, or evaluations ofpossible creeping shale, which are open to interpretation. This new approach takes away that margin fordoubt and gives solid results which can be used to form future decisions.”

Tormod Fossdal, discipline lead for P&A in Equinor said: “This technology has the potentialfor us, and other operators, to select more cost-effective plugging solutions, while at the same time reducing the risk of leaks from permanently pluggedwells.’’

For moreinformation, visit www.hydrawell.com and www.exedra.no

Notes to Editors:

About HydraWell

HydraWell is aglobal Well Integrity specialist, providing engineered solutions to replacetraditional Plug & Abandonment techniques and downhole toolingsolutions. Established in 2008 andheadquartered in Stavanger, the experienced team is committed to developing themost advanced downhole solutions to increase efficiency, reduce operationalcosts and minimise environmental footprint.
